Housing Market in Westchester County April 3, 2020

What You Should Know About Today’s Housing Shortage & House Sales Copy

A normal housing market’s inventory lasts approximately 6 months. We’re currently at about 3 1/2 months and that number could drop lower in this current climate.  There aren’t enough homes to keep up with buyer demand.

A big factor contributing to this is that millennials are deciding to become first-time homebuyers.

There’s also been a shift in when people are buying homes.  For the past five years, buyers have been starting their home search much earlier than the normal ‘spring market’.   There is no such thing as a ‘spring market’ anymore.

Sellers should be putting their homes on the market in January to get ahead of the competition, especially if they have an older home.  Waiting to sell in the spring puts the seller in greater competition with other houses in the area and new construction.

With a currently low amount of homes coming to market, anyone thinking of listing is in a good position to sell.  With the COVID-19 virus, virtual showings have taken the place of physical showings.

Should you want to sell your house, now is a good time to do it!
